Swine flu preparation focus for talk

Getting businesses ready in the event of the swine flu pandemic hitting Bermuda will be the focus for an informative seminar held by Expertise Lid. at the Fairmont Hamilton Princess hotel tomorrow.

The presentation, entitled 'Swine Flu: Readying your Organisation for a Pandemic' and hosted by Doug Soares, partner at Expertise, will look at the current outbreak of the disease and determine what companies can do to prepare.

Topics up for debate range from understanding the swine flu and gaining perspective on the current outbreak, the history of past pandemics and what has been learnt, and facts about vaccination, treatment and prevention to how to establish a business continuity plan for pandemic influenza and strategies for dealing with employee fear.

This follows the World Health Organisation's raising the level of influenza pandemic alert to phase 4 on Monday marking a significant shift in the risk for a pandemic.

"Employers are in a tricky situation when it come to preparing for the possibility of an influenza pandemic," said Mr. Soares. "On the one hand they must move swiftly and decisively to prepare the organisation and their employees to minimise possible disruption to business. On the other hand, they must guard against over-reacting. This seminar aims to help employers strike the right balance.

The event takes place between 9.30 a.m. and 11.30 a.m. and costs$200 per person
