Trio to host happy hour shopping event

Three young Bermudian entrepreneurs have joined forces to hold a shopping night at the Fairmont Hamilton<\p>Princess this week.

Jenia Thompson, Keisha Ramsay and Zakkiyah Daniels have teamed up to host the event in the hotel's Victoria Room between 6.30 p.m. and 9 p.m. during happy hour on Friday, which will offer everything from clothes and shoes to jewellery and cosmetics.

All three, who didn't know each other properly prior to collaborating to put on the event, have set up their own businesses over the past year and sell their products through their websites, as well as juggling their day jobs as high-powered executives.

Ms Thompson owns Lovit Boutique, which sells a wide range of clothing and accessories, including popular lines such as L.A.M.B by Gwen Stephani and the Phantasya collection from Switzerland.

Ms Ramsay, who runs Chrysalis Cosmetics with Sean Saltus, combines chic with flare through the bath and body product 'Cake Beauty' and various other make-up lines like 'TINte Cosmetics' and the popular 'Lime Crime'.

Ms Daniels runs Luxshoeri.com, Bermuda's first online boutique, which offers a big selection of trendy and classic fashion women's footwear, like Paris Hilton, Dolce Vita, Report, Zigi Ny and Charles David.

Joining them at the event will be David Rose Jewellery.

Having staged four shopping nights on her own last year, Ms Thompson, who could be considered somewhat of an old hand at these kind of events, was contacted by Ms Ramsay for some advice on starting out in business and she invited her to join the shopping night as well as bringing Ms Daniels on board.

"Because we are all new businesses we decided to help and support each other by running the shopping tonight together," said Ms Ramsay.

Ms Thompson said that all of the businesses would have their products on display for sale and there would be a cash bar and DJ in addition to a prize giveaway for those who buy an item from each stall during the evening.

She said it was a good opportunity for shoppers to purchase all of their merchandise in one place.

"Basically it is a chance for our customers to get to know us," said Ms Ramsay, who is a mentee on the Bermuda Small<\p>Business Development Corporation's 'Partnering For Success' programme, which was launched in February.

Ms Daniels, who is an attorney by trade, said customers would also be able to touch and get a feel for the products available.

With a passion for shoes and accessories, her keen eye for quality yet affordable fashion led her to fill a gap in the market by launching her own online boutique, bringing in the latest seasonal collections and providing free guaranteed delivery.

Ms Thompson, who works as a financial controller at HSBC Bermuda, sells everything from jewellery and handbags to clothing and accessories and like the other two women plans to have her own store one day.

Ms Ramsay, a specialist at Butterfield Bank, followed her love for beauty products in setting up Chrysalis Cosmetics, having been in the industry as a make-up artist for a number of years, and having got a taste for shopping nights earlier this year, hopes to hold further events in the future.
