Bermudian Jeffers tasked with boosting tourism in East Point
Bermudian Charles Jeffers II has been handed the job of boosting visitor numbers to the city of East Point, south-west of Atlanta.His new role comes after Mr Jeffers, 44, who has worked for the Atlanta Convention and Visitors Bureau (ACVB) for 16 years, was promoted to senior vice-president, operations and executive director East Point, sales and marketing.“The ACVB is going to include the city of East Point in its marketing efforts and I will be responsible for that,” said Mr Jeffers, who previously served as vice-president of membership and technology.“It’s a small city, but it has around 2,200 rooms because it’s near to the [Hartsfield-Jackson] airport, the busiest airport in the world. It gets a lot of overnight travellers. We’ll be trying to help the hotels get more business.”Mr Jeffers’ previous positions with ACVB include technical support administrator, manager of information systems and manager of technology.He chaired the committee for Destination Marketing Association International’s (DMAI) Meetings Information Network Technology database, a convention and meetings tool, and spearheaded the modernisation and name change for this industry application.“I can always count on Charles to excel when taking on new responsibilities,” said William Pate, president and CEO of ACVB. “I know that he will steer the success of this important new initiative with the City of East Point.”So from a marketing viewpoint, what does Bermuda have going for it?“Bermuda still has a great brand and is still known the world over as being a paradise,” Mr Jeffers, a former Berkeley Institute student, added during a visit home last week. “So I would focus on that and also the fact that the people are extraordinarily friendly and the great pride that Bermudians have in the Island.”Established in 1913, Atlanta Convention & Visitors Bureau is a private, non-profit organisation created to favourably impact the Atlanta economy through conventions and tourism.
