AFL and Chamber to host session on investing in Canada
AFL Investments and the Bermuda Chamber of Commerce will be hosting an informational session on investing in Canada next week.The hour-long seminar, entitled “Investing in Canada and Canadian Tax Update”, is designed for anyone interested in learning more about Canadian dollar investments and Canadian taxes.It will explore the strengths of this currency, the current economic conditions and impact of global markets in Canada, as well as Canadian dollar offshore investment options. The session will also provide a tax update, looking in particular at how to define ‘resident’ and ‘non-resident’ for tax purposes, the implications of sending children to Canadian schools, purchasing property and actively investing in Canada as a non-resident, and retiring in Canada.“This event is perfect for any Bermuda residents looking to add or increase currency diversification into their investment portfolio,” said Cindy Campbell, COO of AFL Investments. “The Canadian dollar has performed strongly in recent years due to the commodity boom making it an interesting option for local investors. The seminar also provides Bermuda residents with clarification on the tax implications of capitalising on the investment, education or retirement opportunities presented by Canada.”The investments section will be presented by Matt Maldoff, CFA, from Cidel Financial Group. Mr Maldoff specialises in qualitative and quantitative analysis of fund managers and has spoken frequently in Bermuda. The tax update will be delivered by Arun (Ernie) Nagratha, CA, CPA, from Trowbridge Professional Corporation, who has also been a speaker at previous AFL Investments events.The event will be held on Thursday, May 3, 2012 at 12pm, in The Argus Training Centre in the new Argus Building at 14 Wesley Street in Hamilton.
