Minister addresses legal practitioners at conference
Delegates at the Society of Trusts and Estates Practitioners (STEPS) conference in Bermuda have been given an assurance that Government is working to remove barriers that can impede business in the sector.Giving the opening address at the conference, which was staged the Fairmont Hamilton Princess, Public Safety Minister Michael Dunkley said Government was working on legislation in their area of legal practice.“I am pleased to note that there is a legal working group drafting Foundation legislation and that is being reviewed by the Attorney General’s Chambers,” said Minister Dunkley, who addressed the conference on behalf of Premier Craig Cannonier.He said Bermuda is open for business, and that the Government was already demonstrating its commitment to turning around Bermuda's economy by implementing key policy changes.“You can be assured that this Government is committed to working with you to remove those barriers that impede business,” he added.The Society of Trusts and Estates Practitioners has over 13,000 members worldwide spanning the legal, accountancy, trustee, banking, insurance and related professions.Minister Dunkley was joined by Minister without Portfolio Leah Scott, who is a member of the Society and a practitioner in the area.
