EY announces job cuts
A total of five employees at Ernst & Young — which recently rebranded to EY — have been notified that “they are being separated from the firm,” the company confirmed today.According to a press release, an EY spokesperson said: “We can confirm that five employees in our business support operations have been notified that they are being separated from the firm.“These employee separations are a result of organisational restructuring with a focus to re-skill teams under a more efficient model for continued future growth and success of our business.“All those affected are being favourably supported with severance as well as medical benefits and outplacement services for a set period.“EY remains dedicated to the Bermuda market.”Earlier today re/insurer Endurance Specialty Holdings confirmed that they eliminated a “significant number” of positions globally, and confirmed that two Bermudians were affected. The EY job cuts come after PwC confirmed earlier this month it was cutting its workforce in Bermuda and announced the departure of two partners amid the Island’s continuing economic downturn.A spokesman for the Big Four audit firm said they anticipate a reduction in total workforce in Bermuda of “near ten percent”. That would be the loss of about two dozen jobs, as PwC had a staff of 240 in Bermuda last year.
