Three student lawyers get scholarship boost from MDM
Three young student lawyers yesterday got a $5,000 boost after top law firm Marshall, Diel & Myers split its annual scholarship award between them.
Now Ciara Burrows, Alexis Hayes and Jennifer Looby will all get financial help as they prepare for a career in the law.
A spokesman for Marshall, Diel & Myers said the firm received so many high quality applications, they could not agree on a single winner.
The firm’s managing director, Kevin Taylor, said: “These three young ladies are bright, driven and personable and on the path to becoming solid contributors to the Bermuda Bar.”
Ms Burrows recently left Saltus Grammar School and plans a legal career after taking legal studies and economics at Canada’s University of Waterloo.
Ms Hayes, who has graduated with a Bachelor of Commerce degree from McGill University, also Canada, later graduated from Queen Mary, University of London with a law degree and will now read for her legal practice certificate and Master’s degree in law at the University of Law in London.
Ms Looby, a law researcher for the Bermuda Supreme Court, has been further her legal education through distance learning, will use her share of the money to help pay for a Bachelor of Laws degree at Kaplan Holborn College in London.
