Bank of England Deputy Governor to speak at BMA Seminar

Bank of England Deputy Governor Andrew Bailey

Andrew Bailey, Deputy Governor, Bank of England and CEO, Prudential Regulation Authority, will give the luncheon address at the inaugural Bermuda Monetary Authority (BMA) Seminar next month.

The luncheon will be sponsored by the Association of Bermuda Insurers and Reinsurers (ABIR) and Mr Bailey will be introduced by Stephen Catlin, CEO of Catlin Group.

BMA CEO Jeremy Cox said: “We are fortunate to have an international regulator of Mr Bailey’s stature to speak at the BMA Seminar. It is a tribute to the BMA, as well as to the Bermuda marketplace, that we have been able to attract such a host of insurance luminaries to speak at this event.”

Mr Bailey’s talk will follow an opening keynote address earlier in the programme by John Nelson, chairman of Lloyd’s of London. Mr Bailey will review changes in insurance regulation globally and how regulators should ensure such changes are appropriate and proportionate.

In addition to his talk at the lunch, Mr Bailey will appear on a panel alongside Brian Duperreault, CEO, Hamilton Insurance Group; Dennis Mahoney, director, Ironshore; Frank Majors, co-founder and principal, Nephila Capital; and Mike McGavick, CEO, XL Group. The panel will be moderated by Fiona Luck, a member of the BMA’s board of directors and former EVP, XL Group.

Welcoming remarks will be provided by Deputy Premier and Finance Minister Bob Richards and Mr Cox will provide closing remarks.

The BMA Seminar, “Understanding the New Normal in Insurance & Reinsurance”, will be the first in a series discussing the drivers of change in Bermuda’s financial services industry. With over 200 delegates registered for the lunch, space is limited and seats are being allocated on a first come, first served basis.

The event will be held in the Mid-Ocean Amphitheatre at the Fairmont Southampton on Thursday, December 4, 2014. Registration is $20. The e-mail is communications@bma.bm.
