ATN in a nutshell
Atlantic Tele-Network (ATN) is a trading company that invests in the communications and renewable energy industries. It was founded in 1987, and is headquartered in Massachusetts.
The company has a market capitalisation of $1.2 billion, and is listed on the Nasdaq stock exchange.
It has investments in a number of telecommunications companies across the US, mostly in areas that are technically challenging through geography and remoteness, such as desert and mountain areas, and the mid-west plains.
Among its subsidiaries is Commnet, which provides telecommunications to much of the central and western US states.
ATN also has telecoms subsidiaries in the US Virgin Islands, Aruba, and Guyana.
In 2010 it acquired Alltel Wireless from Verizon, to provide wireless services in six US states. This investment was eventually sold in a $780 million deal to AT&T in 2013.
ATN’s connection with Bermuda goes back to 1998 when it was the primary investor in CellOne, which was merged with KeyTech, as an affiliate, in 2011.
Beyond telecommunications, ATN is also invested in Ahana Renewables, which operates a $220 million portfolio of solar installations in California, New Jersey and Massachusetts.
