Residents now have a way of checking for the best internet deals in Bermuda by visiting a price comparison website.

The pricecheck.bm website is an internet price comparison tool designed to assist consumers identify and compare residential telecommunications services offered by Bermuda’s local service providers.

A soft launch of the website started in August, and it has now been rolled out to all residents.

Bermuda’s telecommunications watchdog, the Regulatory Authority of Bermuda (RAB), created the website.

Price comparisons can be made for internet services, phone, mobile, television and bundled plans.

“The developers, working with our team here at the Authority, built PriceCheck.bm with the consumer in mind. We wanted to make a site that was simple, easy to use and effective in allowing consumers to compare the services telecommunication companies in Bermuda offer before choosing the service that is right for them,” said Kyle Masters, interim chief executive of the RAB.

The authority carried out a consultation through online and street surveys before going ahead with the website.

“There were about 200 responses to survey questions concerning whether or not we should launch a price comparison site. There was a large majority in support of having a site, said Mr Masters.

Other countries, including Malta, Ireland and Belgium have similar price comparison sites.

Mr Masters said the internet service and access providers had been instrumental in bringing the website to fruition.

“Like all new challenges there were some learning curves, but once training was done for each individual carrier, the ease of entering in the date was a smooth process,” he said.

“Telecommunications providers who offer residential services upload accurate pricing and service information onto the website on a regular and ongoing basis to ensure services that are being made available in the market place, are also available for review and comparison on pricecheck.bm.”

In August, the authority carried out a limited launch of the website by advertising it on its own website and social media pages, and by communicating with members of the RAB’s mailing list.

“We hope consumers will find the tool helpful and would welcome feedback on the site from users,” said Mr Masters.
