Appleby hosts 18 students in summer scheme
Law firm Appleby Bermuda employed a record number of 18 university students to participate in its annual Summer Student Programme with five of the students returning from the previous year.
Appleby’s yearly initiative to expose young Bermudian students to fields including law, financial services, business and marketing.
This year, the departments include corporate, private client and trusts, human resources, marketing and central services. Students are also assigned a mentor in their respective department to assist them with their career development.
Students on the programme work directly with an assigned mentor. During their time at Appleby, each student gains critical business relationship skills through exposure to an extensive law library, online databanks, networking opportunities and summer social events. They also take part in internal learning seminars on topics such as interview techniques, résumé writing and various law related topics.
“During their time at Appleby, we aim to provide the students with real life experience and mentoring to assist them with their careers upon graduation,” Appleby Bermuda managing partner Tim Faries said.
“Appleby is committed to the Bermuda local community and progressing the future of our youth.”
In addition to the Summer Student Programme, Naomi Brown (Somersfield), I. Nevin Forbes (Somersfield) and Shanyce Morris (BHS), are participating in the work shadow programme. This programme allows young students who are considering a career in law to work alongside and gain insight into the day to day work of lawyers.
The other participants were Kiuno Cann (University of Indianapolis), William Finnerty (University of Exeter), Evin Mosley (University of Reading), Matthew Hogan (London School of Economics and Political Science), Remond Bonne-Smith (University of London), Charlene Place (University of South Florida), Karissa Burrows (Bermuda College), Monica Spencer (University of Kent), Yan-Xia Stirling-Rogers (Nottingham Trent University), Danae Lightbourn (St John’s University), Erica Balcombe (Brock University), Hannah Snelling (The Royal Alexandra and Albert School), Kaela Skater (University of the Arts), Jaesharrie Johnson (University of Birmingham), Mychal Evans (University of Pittsburgh), Akira McDonald (Middlesex University), Tomas Amaral (University of Kent), Jacari Brimmer-Landy (City University London), Claire Howard (University of Wolverhampton), Rachel Tucker (University of the West of England) and Naomi Brown (Somersfield).
