Business leaders discuss Brexit and Trump
A mystery meeting to discuss the impact of major overseas events like the election of Donald Trump as US president and Britain’s decision to quit the EU was held yesterday.
But participants in the meeting, which included the island’s Chamber of Commerce and the Association of Bermuda Insurers and Reinsurers, were tight-lipped on the mood of the meeting.
The Royal Gazette understands that the meeting was held in private to allow for a franker exchange of views on threats to the island’s economy from Europe and US, compared to more diplomatic public statements.
Kendaree Burgess, executive director of the Chamber of Commerce, confirmed the meeting took place.
“We had a meeting about external forces affecting the Bermuda economy. We’re not going to comment on anything at all to do with that meeting,” she said.
Bradley Kading of Abir, one of the speakers, also declined to comment, as did another speaker, Stephen Weinstein, chief compliance officer, group general counsel and corporate secretary at RenaissanceRe Holdings.
