One and LinkBermuda restore services

LinkBermuda and One Communications had their operations disrupted yesterday. As of yesterday evening, both companies report their operations had been fully restored

Two telecoms companies were hit by disruptions for much of today, bringing to three the number of island-based internet providers hit by outages or disruption in a 48-hour period.

LinkBermuda and One Communications both reported issues affecting their operations.

For One, the disruption was caused from outside the company and its effect was limited to its customer care-related system and did not impact its network services.

By late afternoon the companies said services and operations had been restored

The disruptions came only a day after TeleBermuda International suffered a total outage of its data and voice services.

What was described as a major outage at LinkBermuda lasted most of today as the company’s technicians worked to overcome the problem on the local network.

In a statement, the company said: “At 6.50am, some Link Bermuda customers experienced a service interruption that affected local voice and data services.

“The disruption was caused by a faulty node in the local network, which did not impact Link’s international network.

“The Link technical team worked hard throughout the day to resolve the issue as quickly as possible and all connectivity was restored by 3.59pm.”

The company thanked customers for their patience during the disruption and apologised for any inconvenience it may have caused.

Also in the morning, One Communications reported an “external technical service issue” had disrupted connectivity to businesses in the Hamilton area, including its own.

It posted a message on its Facebook page informing customers: “Due to an external technical service issue providing connectivity to several businesses in the Hamilton area, including ours, resources for assistance such as account access have been limited.”

Around 5.30pm, the company updated its status. It said: “All systems have been restored and we’re now able to provide complete customer care. We sincerely apologise for any inconvenience, and appreciate your patience and continued business.”

The problems encountered by LinkBermuda and One mean that three island-based internet services companies have now reported disruption during the past two days.

TeleBermuda International was hit by a total outage on Tuesday morning. It deployed all its available resources to identify and then repair the fault.

External tech support was also brought in to assist with repairing the internal network equipment malfunction. TBi managed to fully restore its services by late evening.

Yesterday, Gregory Swan, president of TBi, confirmed that all services had been restored.

“Everything is back to normal, and I want to express by appreciation to customers. We realise that people are so reliant on connectivity these days, and I apologise of the inconvenience caused.”

Both TBi and LinkBermuda said the problems identified were on their internal networks and not the result of outside factors.
