Acclaimed new Samsung phone in Bermuda
The new Samsung Galaxy S9, which some commentators are touting as the “phone of the year”, has arrived in Bermuda.
The S9 and S9 Plus are proving popular with customers eager to try out the new features.
One Communications has the phones in stock at its Church Street store, next to Washington Mall, while Digicel is expecting the phone in-store tomorow.
One has reported strong interest in the new device, and offered free accessories to the first 50 customers signing up to its special purchase programme.
Samsung and Apple are the world’s dominant players in the smartphone market, with Apple’s iPhone X, 8 and 8 Plus, taking the lead last year.
The new Galaxy is Samsung’s bid to wrestle back the initiative. The S9 and S9 Plus have a number of fresh features, most notably a revolutionary camera that changes its aperture size, similar to a human eye, allowing it to adapt quickly to bright and dim lighting situations. There is a 960 frames-per-second video setting to make super-slow motion clips, while a selfie setting allows users to create emojis of themselves.
Among other features, the phone incorporates biometrics, allowing a user to unlock it through fingerprint or iris identification, and has dual speakers. There is also a headphone jack socket, something that Apple controversially ditched with its latest models.
