A group of North American Executive MBA students has completed a study on Bermuda’s economy and new industries that might benefit the island.

The report was the result of collaboration between the Bermuda Chamber of Commerce and top business schools Queens University in Canada and Cornell University in the US.

In the summer of 2017 a team of eight Executive MBA students worked with the Chamber to produce the study.

The results will be presented by the Chamber at a morning event on June 27, 2018 on the sixth floor of HSBC’s Harbourview Centre from 9am to 11am.

Kendaree Burgess, executive director, stated: “Perhaps our biggest, most important project in the 2017 year was our collaboration with the Cornell-Queens group.

“The idea that we could leverage some of the brightest minds and their resources was exhilarating. I am thankful to the local groups and individuals who shared ideas, thoughts and suggestions with us.

“It is our hope that the suggestions and recommendations will spur entrepreneurship, create spin-off opportunities, employ our people, and facilitate changes to the legislative environment where necessary.”

The group consisted of mid-career professionals with extensive global business experience in multiple disciplines, including operations and management, finance, risk management, government operations and information technology.

The results of this pro-bono project by the group is property of the Chamber, and the Economics Committee will spend much of its 2018 efforts on helping to promote the findings to businesses in Bermuda including the Bermuda Government, Bermuda First and Bermuda Economic Development Corporation (BEDC).

The Cornell-Queen’s EMBA Project provides students with both a Queen’s MBA and a Cornell MBA in 17 months, while they continue to work. Along with intensive on-campus sessions held on both the Queen’s campus and the Cornell campus, they enable teams to travel to an international destination, like Bermuda, to study and report on real-world international business issues or opportunities.

Light refreshments will be served at the report presentation event. Registration costs $25 for members and $30 for non-members.
