Weisman to speak at IoD conference
Carol Weisman, the internationally known author and motivational speaker, is preparing to sit on the panel of the crisis-management session at the Institute of Director’s Corporate Governance Conference on Friday.
Carol is the president of Board Builders, and her long list of credentials include sitting on over 40 boards, being president of nine of them, and publishing 11 books on governance and philanthropy.
Ms Weisman said: “Crisis management is so imperative to any business or organisation, large or small. You can work for years to build what you have and it can be gone in minutes, unless you know how to handle the crisis at hand.”
Ms Weisman’s experience as a board member has covered a number of crisis topics including natural disaster, sexual harassment, theft, building code violations and environmental hazards.
She added: “Bermuda is prone to natural risks such as hurricanes and toxic mould, which some boards may be familiar with, however, it is important for any board to be able to evaluate all risks and not fall into a false sense of security that they may be exempt from certain crises.
“The aim of this panel is to help all business decision makers to be ready to act in a smart
fashion, when the times comes.”
Ms Weisman is a motivational speaker and is well known for capturing her audiences by using humour to entertain and inform. Her unique approach to board matters won her a television award for her PBS special Building a Board with a Passion for a Mission.
The crisis-management panel will be moderated by Kendaree Burgess, executive director of the Bermuda Chamber of Commerce, and will also include Gary Stockley, vice-president insurance broking, Freisenbruch-Meyer Insurance Services Ltd, whose knowledge and experience in Bermuda business and insurance will prove relevant to many local directors.
The conference, which will take place at the Hamilton Princess and Beach Club, will cover a range of topical topics relevant for board members, aspiring board members, senior management and legal counsel. Attendees can expect to hear from a range of experienced board members, covering a variety of sectors, from non-profit, small, large and multinational companies.
Ms Weisman said: “The conference is worthwhile for anyone in business as it covers best practice for any size organisation. Whether you are Bermuda based, or multinational, an experienced board member or aspiring board member, there is lots to be learnt.”
Sara Schroter Ross, the conference chairwoman, said: “We are excited that Carol will be participating in the conference and sharing her broad experiences and expertise with delegates.
“You just have to watch one of her videos to see how she engages the audience with her vibrant personality.”
