Booze Cruise on the Thames

Golden-Jubilee docked in London

Bermudians living in London will get a taste of home away from home through a cruise featuring soca music, Crown and Anchor and rum swizzles. The July 20 event on the River Thames will raise funds for a community programme in Kenya.

Organiser Matthew Davies, a software developer from Southampton who has lived in London for six years, said the cruise has raised more than $7,000 for sport-themed charities since its launch in 2003.

“It takes place aboard a two-decked party boat called The Golden Jubilee which has a capacity of 240 people, and each year we fill it to the brim,” he said.

Tickets cost $35 including three drinks, a buffet and some chips for the Crown and Anchor table. All funds raised will go to the Ol Pejeta Conservancy in Kenya which runs community assistance programmes focused on improving access to education, health facilities and clean water.

The Conservancy is planning a “Cricket in the Wild” tournament, which fits in with the cricket theme of this year’s booze cruise. The Island’s recent participation in the World Cup will be celebrated, with pictures of the Island’s current most famous export, Dwayne (Sluggo) Leverock, featured on the tickets.

Tickets are available in advance from Mr. Davies at matthew[AT]liquidthinking.co.uk.
