ACE gallery showcases Mulderig miniatures
Elizabeth Mulderig?s exhibition of her miniature paintings opens at the ACE Gallery tonight.
The show features approximately 40 miniature works of art that are sure to captivate viewers with their whimsical charm and otherworldly surrealism.
Some of the titles in the show are ?Eye fishing?, ?Longtail kites?, ?Sailing smiles?, ?Rose shells?, ?Palm trees? and ?Moon slice?.
Miss Mulderig has been painting miniatures for several years. Her pieces were once a regular feature at the old Plantation Restaurant, but now these tiny masterpieces are seldom displayed.
The ACE Gallery show is Ms Mulderig?s first solo exhibition of miniatures in many years and it presents a rare opportunity to enjoy these fanciful yet delightful works of art.
She is a Bermudian artist, who has exhibited her work throughout the Island and abroad, but is probably best known for her illustrative work in children?s books. The books include the Tiny the Treefrog series, Fabulous Fables and Ginger Nelly.
She trained in New York and attended the Arts Students League and the Fashion Institute of Technology where she received her Bachelor of Arts Degree.
Julie Sylvester director of exhibitions at the ACE Gallery said, although Miss Mulderig?s paintings are no bigger than three inches square, they encompass so much.
?Although small, they are highly detailed and encompass entire minuscule worlds that provide a collective illustration of Bermuda?s humour and enchantment,? said Ms Sylvester.
?Elizabeth has been painting miniatures for several years and shows them every few years.
?Her work used to be featured regularly at the Plantation restaurant on Harrington Sound, but she has not had a regular arena to show her miniature work since the restaurant closed.
?When she first started painting they were originally five inches by seven inches ? they are now smaller ? no bigger than three by three.?
The show opens at 5.30 p.m. at the ACE Gallery in the ACE Global Headquarters in Hamilton.
