The Bermuda Regional Bridge Tournament concluded last Saturday night with a gala prize-giving and dinner dance.
Vera Petty and Roman Smolski of Bermuda once again shared the Norman Bach Trophy for the local player gaining the most masterpoints during the tournament.
The Maude Lines trophy for the visitor equivalent was Jim Linhart and the prize for the most points gained by a Bermuda Bridge Club player with under 20 points at the start of the tournament was won by Rosemary Smith.
During the week, Bermuda players scored significant results in various competitions:
John Rayner and Don Airey won both flights B and C of the Monday/Tuesday Stratified Championship Pairs; Patricia Colmet and Laura Patriciu won flight C of the Wednesday/Thursday Stratified Open Pairs ; and in the bracketed knock-out teams competition, Jean Johnson?s team won the A/X division; Eddie and Stephanie Kyme?s team won the B division and the team of Florin and Laura Patriciu, Dee Griffiths and Annabella Fraser won the C division
The Friday/Saturday Flighted Swiss Teams competition resulted in a Bermuda sweep: Flight A winners were Charles Hall, Harry Kast, Michael Bickley and Tony Saunders. Flight B winners were Magda Farag, Mona Marie Gambrill, Gertie Barker and Jane Smith. Flight C winners were Elizabeth McKee, Elysa Burland, Peggy Thompson and Pat Colmet
Tournament chairwoman Lynanne Bolton won enough points during the tournament to become a Life Master. Local resident Magda Farag achieved Bronze Life Master status and Alan Douglas joined partner Ian Harvey and Vera Petty in attaining the rank of Gold Life Master this week.
