Budding chefs put their best to the test

In a positive rivalry that has been going on for the past four years, the Scouts and Cubs of Bermuda held their annual 'Budding Chef Competition' on Saturday November 22, at Somersfield Academy.

This is the day when Scouts and Cubs must either, cook alone or with another male and have their food items judged. The categories for this year were fish, chicken, casseroles, and, of course, desserts. There is always excitement when the food is brought in for registration, and most often even the closest of friends do not disclose beforehand what culinary specialities they will feature.

The judges for the night, Minister of Youth, Sport and Culture, Dale Butler and Keith Simmons, chairman of the Board of Trustees of Summerhaven, expressed their delight in the quality, aroma and flavours of the food presented. When the decisions got tough the judges had to go back and taste a second and even third time.

The night was well supported by most of the Islands groups and everyone that took part was a winner in their own right.

Denzel Simons of the 18th Bermuda Cub Pack came out a big winner by placing first in the casserole category and second in the dessert category. 1: Denzel Simons 18th Cubs (Beef Curry Casserole), 2: Nakeno Creighton 32nd Cubs ( Bacon & Cheese Quiche) 3: Justin Simons 18th Cubs (JusLey Casserole) honourable mention-Khyree Dillas 32nd Cubs(Shepherds Pie). 1: Aaron Crichlow 32nd Cubs (Grilled Salmon) 2: Jabari Robinson 32nd Cubs (Stuffed Wahoo) 1: Blaine Baker 22nd Scouts (Grilled Chicken) 2: Rickai Edwards 18th Cubs (Curry Chicken & Coconut Milk) 3: Jeniko Burrows 18th Cubs (DeJon Terragon Chicken) 1: Victor Fishington 22nd Scouts (Banana Pudding) 2: Denzel Simons 18th Cubs (Ginger Pineapple Mold) 3: Pierre Baisden 22nd Cubs (Five Layer Dessert) honourable mention ?
