Special Event - A Painters? Picnic Please join us for ?A Painters? Picnic? from 12 noon until 3 p.m. The idea is for Masterworks to host a picnic to bring our membership, the general public and Bermuda?s artists together for an afternoon of socialising with the opportunity to purchase original artworks. Local artists have been invited to participate and so far we have had great response. Admission is free.

Tickets are on sale for $25 per person and children under 12 are free for a picnic lunch and liquid refreshments. So save the date and bring the family for an afternoon of art in the Rose Garden here at Masterworks in the Botanical Gardens, Paget. Call 236-2950 for tickets and further information.

Bermuda National Trust Event The Friends of Verdmont present - Prisoners of the Boer War. A fascinating, little-known stories told by Andrew Bermingham, author of ?Bermuda Military Rarities?. Guests are welcome to bring their own (small) Boer artefacts for Mr. Bermingham to examine. The event will take place at the Verdmont Museum. Our Historical Heart Beats Lecture Series Laws & Regulations in Bermuda: A Historical Perspective A two part series Coordinated by Dr. Pauulu Kamarakafego. The Choral Room, Cedarbridge, 7.30 - 9.30

The first part of this law series will feature a panel of eminent lawyers who will share their knowledge on the history of Bermuda?s laws. The practice of laws designed to restrict community development as well as the laws enacted to protect and enhance society from 1616 to 1834 will be highlighted. Free Admission. PartnerRe Art Lecture Series 2004/5 The American Impressionists at Lyme by Jeffrey Andersen, Director of the Florence Griswold Museum, Old Lyme, Connecticut Drawing from the Griswold Museum Collection as well as others, Mr. Andersen will illustrate the history of the Lyme School, an important centre of Impressionism in America. His lecture will portray their fascination with the New England landscape and coastline and discuss their contribution to American Art. He will comment on their keen interest in Bermuda, of which there are examples in the Griswold Collection. Gombey Festival Clock Tower, Dockyard, 2 p.m. - 6 p.m. A showcase of one of Bermuda?s most enduring, living cultural traditions - The Bermuda Gombeys. Today, the Gombeys are a well preserved national treasure. Troupes in the past were found in many parishes, but their roots can be traced to areas such as Parson?s Road, Curving Avenue, Friswell?s Hill, Government Gate, Pond Hill, North Village, Happy Valley, Deep Dale and Smith?s Hill. This festival will feature the lively dances and music of the various Gombey troupes from around the Island at the festive Royal Naval Dockyard. Come out to enjoy this unique tradition and feel the pulsating beat of our Gombeys.
