Calling reggae fans ? this concert?s for you!

Tony Rebel and I Wayne will grace the stage with several other well known reggae artists over the weekend.

The reggae concert 4 Bermuda by Bermuda takes place under the mega-tent at Clearwater Beach on Saturday night.

One of the White Tiger Promotions organisers Francine Hall said there will be music for everyone.

?I Wayne, Junior Lion and Leo-tan are more or less for the younger or new generation of people,? she said.

?Queen Ifrica, sings backup with the Tony Rebel Band, but she will also be performing solo.

?Baska Max is also coming with I Wayne and will sing a few solos. Gregory Isaacs and Tony Rebel are from the same era and they are the veterans of the show.?

On the local front, the old favourites abound with Twan?e Butterfield, Ali and Jahstice.

?It will be a night full night of entertainment,? said Ms Hall.

?We are new coming out and we want to give Bermuda what has been a long time in the coming. We have had it before, but we are going to try to bring it back.

?We have never had concerts outside in the winter before, but we have the mega-tent now, until we get a building. So this is great for Bermuda and it is a great way to send some positive waves out there to these children that it is not all bad out there and mixing with the older crowd is good for them.?

She was surprised to see that young people were into Gregory Isaacs and Tony Rebel, although they were from a different musical age.

?A lot of them, believe it or not, play their music and are very familiar with it,? she said.

?It might be the first time that they are seeing them and that is positive for them.?

On the original bill they had decided on Luciano, but he was booked solid at the time, so then they went back to their people in Jamaica who then suggested Tony Rebel, Gregory Isaacs and I Wayne, she said.

?At the time Tony Rebel and I Wayne were on a tour together in Vancouver and they drew a lot of people,? said Ms Hall.

?Someone else suggested Gregory Isaacs because he is well-loved all over the world and that is how we came up with those three artists.

?Junior Lion comes out of St. Maarten and after he had received a Black Entertainment Television (BET) Award, Terence Clayton had told us about him. He was up to it and said, ?yes?.

?Leo-Tan is from Holland and he is our connection for the ten-day European tour we are planning for the winter.

?We are just excited and everyone is bubbling. It?s happening.?

Ms Hall added that plans were in the works for another show in December.

?That is another big show,? she said. ?We are looking forward to doing at least four big shows a year, in Bermuda.?

They also plan to take this particular show, with the Bermudian artists, on ten-day tour across Europe.

?Terrence Clayton of BET will be emceeing the show on Saturday night and he is also a talent scout.

?So, he is coming here to do two jobs. He is open for just about anything and he said if he can take back some talent with him than that is exactly what he is going to do. It?s good things for our young people and everything we will just grow from there.?

Ms Hall stumbled into promotions after a chance meeting with Roy Lynch, of Global M2P2 Promotions, in March.

?He had heard about Bermuda and is a promoter,? she said, ?and he wondered what it would be like to do a concert in Bermuda.

?I gave him a little feedback on the concerts we have here like Byron Lee and others. Then he said, ?Let?s do a show in Bermuda?.

?And I guess the rest is history, because we are doing it. Glen Doers, of Spanish Town, is our liaison person here and he is making sure that everything is going smoothly.

?They will be getting an awesome show with three greats ? three favourites!?
