Celebrating Island?s culture and history
The Department of Community and Cultural Affairs yesterday presented Premier Alex Scott with a copy of a calendar celebrating Bermuda's culture and history.
The calendar, entitled "Cultural Connections 2007: Folklife in Bermuda" features photographs representing several of Bermuda's cultural traditions.
Each month highlights a tradition-bearer in the different Folklife arts, with a quote about their craft. The calendar also features important dates in Bermuda's history.
Tradition-bearers include familiar faces such as fisherman Llewellyn Hollis, dollmaker Ronnie Chameau, chef Judith Wadson, mason Julian Van Lowe and others.
Folklife Officer Dr. Kim Dismont Robinson, said: "The most difficult part of creating this calendar was choosing the shortlist of tradition-bearers.
"Bermuda has so many wonderful examples of people contributing to our rich Island heritage that we certainly couldn't fit them all into the space of 12 calendar months," she added.
Senior Community & Cultural Affairs Officer Heather Whalen said the calendar provided an opportunity for the Department and the community to recognise the accomplishments and talents of Bermudian artisans.
