Doubling up
For the past five years, JaKoMa Entertainment have been holding fashion shows, but this one is going to be a little different ? it will be a doubleheader featuring more than 50 local models.
The show at the Fairmont Southampton Princess will be held during the day on Sunday and will then repeat itself in the evening.
Featuring local designers and clothes from boutiques and clothing stores from around the Island, the show will also offer competitions, hair and makeup shows and a booths where the audience can buy the items they have seen on show.
Mr. Robinson said over the past five years the aim was always to highlight the local models, who will strut their stuff on a 100-foot long runway.
In a bid to properly represent the stores, Mr. Robinson came up with this idea ?that this would be a chance for them to display their autumn and winter fashions, while we could highlight JaKoMa Snow, which is our annual show?.
?Initially we had only eight stores participating, but with this one we have 18 and for the first time we will be featuring petite, high fashion, maternity and plus size models,? he said.
?It is a see and shop, you will see four stores and one local designer.
?Then there is a half-hour break and within that time you can go to the store?s stall and purchase what you just saw. Then the next group of retailers come on.?
While the same clothes will be shown in both the morning show and the afternoon/evening show, there will be different live bands.
In addition, Kafu Hair & Gallery stylist Glenn Wilks will be doing a hair presentation .
?He will take some models and put them on the stage and they will be doing different themes like, how to do up dos,? Mr. Robinson said.
The show will also offer makeovers in a runway queen for the day competition.
?For the finale piece we have selected ten models for Glenn to do a hair show with them. That is going to be exciting,? he said.
Guests in attendance will have the opportunity to have complimentary consultations on hair and skin care, mini manicures and makeovers from our team of professionals,? said Mr. Wilks.
?Product samples and giveaways courtesy of Kafu and our guests will also be able to purchase gift certificates, T-shirts, art prints and selected products from our exclusive hair and beauty lines.
?There will be several live presentations and a grand finale featuring over 15 models bringing you the latest in hair colour, styling and fashion trends.?
The band and entertainment will include Tony Bari and his band, Chewstick, Plus Four jazz ensemble and Khalilah Smith.
Some of the retailers that are taking part are 27th Century Boutique, A.S. Coopers, All in One, Benetton, Calais, Calypso, Choices, Eve?s Garden, FCUK, Gibbons Company, It?s A Plus, Levi, Marks & Spencer, Makin? Waves, MaxMara, New Additions, Sports Source, Upscale Fashions and Voila.
The local fashion designers are Dean Williams, who has a more modern style of artistry in Definitions, Sheree Cannonier, AnyWear, and EyB?.
?Our desire is to get it strong enough where we can do a children?s fashion show, a plus-size night, designer night and international lines,? Mr. Robinson said.
But Mr. Robinson said he was most impressed with the response to the model call.
?When we did the auditions, we had a host of models, 40 of whom we had never seen before,? he said. ?We didn?t know how great it was going to be. Now we have about 150 models to go through. It might seem like a lot, but it is needed because we have so much, so we need 60 to 100 models. I can promise that the audience will not get bored with seeing the same faces.
The tickets are an all day pass and you can leave and come back. $45 in advance by calling Tina on 295-0346 and $50 at the door.
