Five charities will benefit from a fundraising golf tournament due to take place in April.

Organisers of the 14th annual Ross (Blackie) Talbot Charity Classic hope to raise $200,000 at the event at Riddell's Bay Golf and Country Club, which starts on April 3.

They announced the recipients of the cash at a Press conference at sponsor Bank of Bermuda's headquarters in Hamilton yesterday.

The charities are: The Family Centre; the National Dance Foundation of Bermuda, De Boys Day Out Club Mentoring Programme, the Packwood Home and the Ross (Blackie) Talbot Foundation.

Clement Talbot, chairman of the tournament's organising committee and son of the late entertainer Ross (Blackie) Talbot, said: "We are exceptionally proud to be able to assist these wonderful charities.

"Diversity, goodwill, fellowship, camaraderie and family values remain the key values of the tournament and the legacy left behind by my father.

"These are the drivers that inspire me to organise this tournament every year."

Phillip Butterfield, CEO of the Bank of Bermuda, added: "This year funds raised will go towards charities focused on the youth, seniors and health elements in our community, which are of extreme importance and touch every one of us."

A specific golf tournament for juniors, sponsored by Tyco International, will take place in July.

The organising committee's Mega Raffle, featuring $100,000 worth of prizes, will be televised on April 7.
