Fundraising concert to aid ailing Boulevard members
When friends have problems a helping hand is always welcome, which is why Mitchelle (Live Wires) Trott is asking everyone to turn out tomorrow night for a special fundraising concert to help with the medical expenses of two fellow Boulevard Community Club members, Troy (Box) Smith and Vernon (Latty) Symonds, each of whom has a serious medical condition. Mr. Smith, the father of quintuplets, has cancer. Mr. Symonds is a father of three.
Small wonder then, that the show's title is, 'Call on your Brother, Call on your Sister'.
The event, which is being co-hosted by Mr. Trott's company, Ah Who Productions, and the Boulevard Community Club, will feature all local talent, many of whom are household names. They include: Mr. Trott (tap and vocals), Zion Wilson (vocals/guitar), DJ and reggae recording artist Ninja Cutty, Desmond (Rivers) Smith (guitar/vocals), Phiemma Caisey (vocals), June Caisey (poetry), Joy Barnum (vocals), Crystal McKenzie (poetry), the Caisey Brothers (Albert Jr. and Taur), rappers Smokey G and Double J, and the African Dance Company. Sound will be by Roots and Culture.
The venue is Victor Scott School auditorium, and curtain time is 8.30 p.m. Admission is $10, payable at the door, and further donations will be welcomed.
Mr. Trott, who has been a member of and played for Boulevard all his life, says that tomorrow night's fund-raiser is the first of what he anticipates will be many similar events to benefit other club members who also need a helping hand.
"Your official attendance and presence is very much encouraged," is his message to the brothers and sisters. "You don't want to miss this show. While it is the first of many, the first cuts the deepest."
