Go hogge wild for another year

Hogging it: The Masterworks Foundation have produced a 2005 calendar based on the Bermuda Goes Hogge Wild Collection.

The Bermuda Goes Hogge Wild Collection proved so popular that the Masterworks Foundation decided to extend its shelf life with a 2005 calendar.

Masterworks Foundation?s Elise Outerbridge said the Hogge event was so popular that people kept returning to see the decorated pigs.

?People were saying that they had been back three or four times with their kids, tourists were calling us and it just seemed a natural step to take it one step further and expand the whole experience,? she said.

?We had taken photographs initially and we figured that, if we did this, it would add to the money of public art and art education.

?It did not have to be a one-off.?

She said The Masterworks Foundation?s original idea was to put the pigs all over the Island.

?But because of red tape ? you can?t put certain things in certain properties,? it did not happen, said Mrs. Outerbridge.

?And we were afraid that, if we did, then the pigs would be damaged. So, we learned a lot out of the exercise and this calendar is going to be the end product.

?It?s fun because it has all these pork recipes. It is a different approach and we put in the things that we would like to see, like when the moons are and spaces that are big enough to put information in.?

She said the artists that painted hogges were really pleased with the calendar.

?They have been buying them by the dozens to give as gifts,? she said. ?We are hoping that people will contact us here because, as a charity and not for profit, we would like to sell them straight to the public and not wholesale.

?So they make great gifts and we will give a discount if they are bought in bulk.?

The Bermuda Hogge Calendar 2005 sells for $15 and can be purchased from any Masterworks Gallery or by telephoning 236-2950.
