Guiding Association launches fundraiser
Girl Guiding Bermuda will hold its first fundraising fair today. The family fun day will be held at St. Paul's Hall in Paget.
The fair will officially be opened by Girl Guiding's Honorary President, Lady Vereker and will be supported by Hamilton Town Crier Ed Christopher.
It runs from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.
"The organisation is holding the fair to raise funds for operating expenses," said Denise Woodhouse, Island Commissioner, Girl Guiding Bermuda.
"Activities on the day will include crafts, games, rumble in the jumble and tombola. There will also be baked goods, books and refreshments for sale.
"There is a raffle for many prizes including a $1,000 travel voucher. Raffle tickets can be purchased for $5 from any Rainbow, Brownie, Girl Guide, the Girl Guiding Office in the Lady Asser Hut, in Pembroke or from Renaissance Hair Salon."
Girl Guiding Bermuda, the organisation, runs Rainbows for girls aged five to seven, Brownies for ages seven to ten, Guides for ages 11 to 14, and Rangers for ages 15 to 25 across the Island.
Mrs. Woodhouse said: "Our fair is a great opportunity for families to come out and enjoy a relaxed day with some fun activity for adults and children.
"We welcome everyone on the Island to attend, see our Rainbows, Brownies and Guides in action, and support Girl Guiding Bermuda, which has a strong influence on instilling discipline and teamwork in many young Bermudian girls."
The Boy Scouts will support the event by holding a car wash. They will be raising funds to travel to the World Scouting Jamboree, in England, to celebrate 100 years of Scouting.
Girls and young women who are interested in becoming involved with Girl Guiding Bermuda, either as a Brownie or a Leader, should contact Carol Hall in the office on 292-0675 or send an e-mail to: girlguidesnorthrock.bm.
