Lighthouse Tearoom gallery opens mixed media show

?Get ?em while they?re hot!? That?s the message from Deidre Furtado, of Artist Showcase, which manages exhibitions at the Lighthouse Tearoom gallery among others, in relation to the next ? and last ? exhibition of the year, which opens on Sunday, November 6.

The mixed media event, entitled ?Different Strokes?, will feature the work of artists Angela Gentleman, Otto Trott, Christopher Grimes, Jackie Stevenson, Fayelle Wharton, Emma Ingham-Dounouk, Rhona Emmerson, Karen Dyer and Deidre Furtado. ?Everything from Christopher Marson?s tranquil watercolours to Karen Dyer?s ocean abstracts will be represented,? Mrs. Furtado says. ?The works are small, ready to hang, and perfect for Christmas giving. It will be the most exciting show yet.?

Among the participating artists whose work Mrs. Furtado admires is that of Angela Gentleman, whose recent paintings ?surprised? her. ?When I saw her latest paintings I knew I had to have her do something for this show,? she says. ?She has produced some bold abstracts in rich oils. They are cheerful and bright but easy on the eye, and delightful to live with. Every new painting seems to teach her something which delights.?

The opening reception is from 5.30 p.m. to 7 p.m., and continues through December 11. Opening hours are 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. daily. Thereafter, the gallery will be closed until approximately February 19, 2006 when Karen Dyer kicks off the new season with a solo exhibition.
