Local group to perform Handel?s ?Messiah?
The Ensemble Singers will present Handel?s Messiah next weekend, December 4 and 5.
The two performances are set to take place at the Wesley Methodist Church, in Hamilton, on December 4 and 5.
The Ensemble Singers will present the English oratorio, ?Messiah? by Baroque composer George Frideric Handel.
Special guests artists include The Bermuda Philharmonic Orchestra conducted by Dr. Gary Burgess, American soloists, Louise Toppin, soprano, Nicole Piccolamini, mezzo-soprano, Jeffrey Halili, tenor and Valarion Ruminski, bass.
President Gary L. Phillips said the Ensemble Singers have earned a strong community recognition for performances in many local churches and in several concerts.
The choral group has also shared the stage with The Bermuda Philharmonic Orchestra and Chorus, the Cathedral Boys? Choir, with Ruth Thomas and Company at the 2003 Bermuda Festival for the Performing Arts.
Mr. Phillips added that earlier this spring, the Ensemble Singers travelled to Tokyo, Japan for its first overseas engagement where the group raised more than $10,000 towards the purchase of a new organ for St. Alban?s Anglican Church.
Part proceeds from this and other concerts are applied to its Music Education Award Scheme, which was established to encourage young Bermudians to pursue a career in the musical arts.
The concerts will be held at the Wesley Methodist Church in Hamilton on December 4 at 8 p.m. and December 5, at 4 p.m.
Tickets are $25 and can be purchased from the Music Box, the Wesley Methodist Church office, and the Seventh Day Adventist Store on King Street, or at the door.
