Look out Bermuda, it?s Hype Time

With a riddim mashing up the dancehall world, an energy drink better tasting than Red Bull and a popular song in rotation on Bermuda?s radios, Hype Nova the producer is well on his way to incredible success.

The young producer born Kyle Wade sat down with to discuss his recent success and future endeavours.

Kyle, 20, from St. George?s, broke into the music industry ?through the back door? when he was 16 years old. He called Black Shadow Records and asked Troyton Rami, owner and executive producer if he could work for him.

Kyle said Mr. Rami showed him how to write songs and make beats that fans would like.

?It?s not just about making a beat. Anybody can make a beat. You?re not a producer if you make beats, you?re just a beat maker?, he said.

Kyle also attended Full Sale Real World Education, in Florida where he did a one year intensive Associate?s degree that taught him the technical side to producing.

Right now the producer is celebrating his first dancehall riddim called ?Hype Time?. The riddim (rhythm) features dancehall artists Elephant Man, Grammy Award winning artiste Beenie Man, Wayne Marshall, Capleton, Madd Cobra, Mr. Easy, Vybez Kartel, and Bermudian artists Jozelle and Crucial. It was mixed by Grammy award winning engineer, Gary Noble. Mr. Noble?s credits include The Fugees song ?Ready or Not? and Rupee?s Soca hit ?Tempted to Touch?.

He is the first Bermudian to put out an international dancehall riddim featuring international and Bermudian artists.

Kyle discovered his passion for music when he was five years old after his mother Maxine sent him to drum lessons. He also became a DJ when he got older and had his own sound system.

When asked why he chose to produce dancehall music, Kyle said: ?I love dancehall, I like rap too. I can make rap beats all day [and spit a verse here and there [but dancehall has a different vibe to it ? a lot of energy.?

The majority of the producing takes place in Miami and Jamaica, he said.

?I make the beats wherever. It could be on a plane, on the bus. I?ll have a laptop, keyboard and mini speakers. It takes about five minutes.?

So far Kyle has achieved a lot of success including starting a record label ? First Class Records ? with his partners Tori Robinson and Waynette Thomas. They have a recording studio called The Hit Room. Kyle says they are currently working with Jozelle to complete her album.

Along with the hype time riddim, Kyle has recorded a song called ?Bermuda? with Bermudian artiste Stevie Dread.

?That?s a nice track about the high lifestyle in Bermuda. The money, nice houses, pink sand. It?s a good marketing scheme for Bermuda?.

Both Kyle and Stevie Dread came up with the concept while Mr. Dread wrote the hook.

Because Kyle considers himself an entrepreneur, his sights are set past music. He also has an energy drink called ?Hype?.

?I have my own energy drink called ?Hype?,? he laughs.

?My name is Hype and I?m full of energy so why not have my own energy drink.?

He plans to market the drink in grocery stores, gas stations and night clubs.

Kyle says his role model is none other than Jay-Z.

?I like his business character. He?s very business minded [and good at marketing and music. He?s consistent too. A lot of people come out once and fall off after having success?.

Even though he has had success with dancehall, Kyle does not plan to venture into Conscious Reggae.

He says he enjoys making people dance to his ?hype energy beats?.

Kyle says his name ? Hype Nova ? is a mix of a nickname and his love for the ladies.

?They used to call me ?Hyper?. I got Nova from Casanova ? the ladies you know,? he laughs.

In light of his successes so far, Kyle has remained a humble young man. He says the key maintaining your success is to be humble.

?Stay humble. When success comes people will say ?Ya the guy, Ya doing big things? and you just can?t let that get to your head because the minute you do that?s when you fall off because people aren?t going to like you and they are waiting for you to fall?.

Kyle admitted that it is very hard to get into the industry. ?It?s real hard to get into the industry. I entered through the back door. Do not go to the front door ? it will get slammed in your face.?

When asked what he predicts for himself in the future, he said: ?More big things, more success hopefully. Just evolving and growing with the music.?

He continued: ?I?m going to work on a new riddim [called excitement. Also work on Jozelle?s album [and probably do something with Collie Buddz, who said he wants to go on the hype time?.

As far as thanks go, Kyle thanks Stefan Shelton who helped him with the riddim, his parents Maxine and Charles (Nature) Wade and family for supporting him financially, his partners Tori and Waynette and his friend Juan Usher who helped him make beats.

The Hype Time Riddim will be released during the week of Cup Match. It can be purchased at Dub City, Sound Stage, Music World and other music stores.
