Masterworks to host creative process seminar
Masterworks will host an all-day seminar on the `Creative Process' on September 28 with lecturer and author David Lyman, founder and president of the Maine Photographic Workshops and Rockport College.
The seminar will be held in Masterworks' new gallery space at the Botanical Gardens and a lunch will be served.
The workshop is for artists, photographers, filmmakers, writers, entrepreneurs, innovators, investors and CEOs, as well as anyone who wants to be more creative, make a dream come true and lead a life full of adventure, prosperity and art.
The workshop schedule includes lectures and discussions, afternoon exercises, the sharing of stories and procedures for turning your ideas into reality.
Lyman is an adventurer, photographer, writer, filmmaker, entrepreneur, educator and authority on the `Creative Process' and the `Transformational Learning Experiences'.
He founded the Maine Photographic Workshops in 1973, now a world-renowned centre for photographers, filmmakers and new media artists. In 1996 Lyman founded Rockport College, a conservatory for the world's storytellers and image-makers.
He now lectures and advises corporations, creative artists and CEOs on how to achieve greater use of their imaginations and be more creative.
Lyman was a combat photographer and journalist in Vietnam in 1967 and then returned to become an adventure writer and magazine editor.
He has worked as a filmmaker, a television producer, radio personality, ski instructor and mountain guide, a yacht captain and concert producer.
As well Lyman has climbed mountains, skied glaciers, sailed solo more than 30,000 miles and survived three hurricanes (including Hurricane Emily which hit Bermuda in 1987). He has sailed solo between his home in Maine and the Caribbean seven times, stopping in Bermuda each time.
He has written extensively on the creative process, leads workshops on creative development and advises artists, CEOs, inventors and investors on how to be more creative and overcome the barriers which stand in the way of success.
During his one-day workshop Lyman will cover a number of topics based on his study of successful artists and innovators. They include: The Artists and the Entrepreneur, how to master the creative process and what are the eight keys to success. One of the major obstacles to achieving great success, Lyman believes, is fear.
During his lecture, Lyman will describe how to overcome fear, deal with anxiety and to use the power of fear to succeed. He will also cover risk assessment and management, discuss the imagination's role in creative work and talk about where ideas come from.
The afternoon session deals with personal and professional goal setting, writing a personal mission statement and making an action play for getting better at being creative.
Lunch will be served at the centre and tuition for the entire day is $100, payable to the Bermuda Masterworks. Alumni of the workshops in Maine will pay $50. The fee includes lunch and a notebook containing suggestive readings and exercises to complete. The programme begins at 9 a.m. and ends at 4.30 p.m. Seating is limited to 100 persons and can be reserved by calling 236-2950.
