Meet the pasta masters

photo by Glenn Tucker.Giovanni Ortolano and Christian Stellati from Northern Italy, 'the cradle of pasta' show Bermuda College culinary arts students how to make a filled pasta.

Going to Italy is the best way to learn Italian cooking, but it isn't always practical for a budding chef.

That is why MEF Ltd. recently brought two Italian chefs from a famous Italian restaurant, Caffe Arte e Mestieri. During a special session at the Bermuda College earlier this month chefs Giovanni Ortolano and Christian Stellati demonstrated authentic northern Italian cooking and pasta-making techniques to student chefs.

"We are from the North of Italy," said Mr. Stellati's wife Ilaria who translates for the pair. "It is known as the cradle of pasta."

Dale Butler of MEF said it was important for Bermudian students to be exposed to the real thing. The Italian chefs also made presentations at a number of restaurants including Fourways.
