Northlands family reunites
Old students from Northlands Primary School had a night to remember this summer when they celebrated the work of their teachers dating back to the 1940s.
The Pembroke Community Club was packed with old boys and girls who attended the school between the late 40s and 70s at the reunion bash.
Teachers received certificates and pins to mark their hard work and dedication, and balloons of purple and yellow helped to create the atmosphere, which was specifically designed to recreate the old school colours.
Former teacher Gwyneth (Dilworth) Lightbourne, who worked at the school about 60 years' ago, said the night comprised of a banquet dinner, school memories, entertainment and dancing.
Old teachers and principals were remembered throughout the night, with many now deceased.
Mrs. Lightbourne said: "The occasion was hilarious as students reflected on pranks which they had played, and the teachers responded by giving their versions of the incidents which they remembered.
"It was rewarding to see ex-students participate throughout the entire programme."
And Mrs. Lightbourne said everyone wished to give special thanks to the organising committee, and businesses who had assisted to make the night in June a success.
She said: "Today, the huge restructured Northlands Primary School on Berkeley Road stands on our original school site.
"But, the memories, however, of our petite Northlands Primary School, with its flag pole on the bank and the Union Jack swaying in the breeze, will continue to live on enriching our school's heritage."
