Raising boys forums set for this week
A series of forums aimed at raising the expectations of boys and improving their educational development will take place this week.
The Department of Community Education has organised a series of public forums on Effective Strategies for the Development of Boys in Bermuda.
Minister of Community Affairs and Sport Dale Butler said the community has been demanding an initiative of this sort.
"We have several new Doctors in education, who have specialised in different styles for educating boys," said Mr. Butler. "I think this is a step in the right direction."
Mr. Butler went on to say that the panel would be composed of a mixture of educators and community workers.
He invited all members of the community to attend the four forums and particularly parents and guardians.
"You will be nourished physically, spiritually and educationally," he said.
The forums will be held at different venues across the Island from today until Thursday from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m.
Today: The Bermuda Industrial Union will host Police Commissioner Jonathan Smith, Gary Monroe, Stanford Bradshaw and Dr. Melvin Bassett as panellists.
Tomorrow: St. Mary's Church Hall, Warwick with panellists, Mr. Leonard Simons, Police Constable Donville Yarde, Milton Richardson and Dr. Dena Lister.
Wednesday: St. George's Cricket Club, with panellists Chief Insp. Anthony Mouchette, Charles Marshall, Dr. Derek Tully and Dr. Glenn Bascome.
