Coming soon: American Concert organist and recording artist Dr. Herndon Spillman will give a recital at St. Paul's Church, Paget this weekend. His programme will include works by Durufle, Couperin, Bach, Franck and Daniel-Lessur.

Devotees of organ music are in for a special treat on January 14 when American concert organist Herndon Spillman gives a recital at St. Paul?s Church in Paget.

The visiting organist and recording artist is internationally recognised for his interpretations of the works of French composers, and is much in demand as a recitalist, both in the United States and elsewhere.

A protege of Maurice Durufl?, Dr. Spillman is highly regarded as an interpreter of the former?s music.

In fact, his doctoral dissertation, ?The Organ Works of Maurice Durufl?, is considered an important reference source in the interpretation of this musical literature.

He was also the first to record the complete organ works of this composer, and the album earned him a ?Grand Prix du Disque? in France.

Dr. Spillman currently co-ordinates the organ programme at Louisiana State University?s School of Music in Baton Rouge.

He records on the Titanic label, which has recently issued two new albums, ?A Diversity of Riches? featuring 20th century American composers, and ?French Suites for Organ?.

The label has also re-released the organist?s award-winning Durufl? on CD, in addition to his popular ?300 Years of French Glory?.

Dr. Spillman?s Bermuda recital is being presented by the Bermuda chapter of the American Guild of Organists.

His programme will include works by Durufl?, Couperin, Bach, Franck and Daniel-Lessur. Starting time is 7.30 p.m., and tickets are $30 for adults and $15 for students.
