The Bermuda Civic Ballet will host Swansea's Ballet Russe early next month.

There will be two performances, under the distinguished patronage of Sir John and Lady Swan, one on June 3 and the other on June 4, with both beginning at 8 p.m. and the City Hall Theatre.

The Ballet Russe company is made up of Russian dancers who settled in Swansea, Wales.

The performances will feature five dancers from the Ballet and will include a pas de deux from La Fille Mal Garde, and Diana and Acteon, with pieces from other well known ballets.

Local dancers will also be performing in what will probably be the only classical ballet to be seen in Bermuda this year.

The Ballet Russe was formed in 1998 after the dissolution of the Soviet Union. The group of Russian dancers arrived in Britain seeking better opportunities.

The Company began it's life in Bristol and in September 1999, thanks to the vision and generosity of the City & County of Swansea, took up residence in the Grand Theatre, Swansea.

They have taken ballet to a broad cross section of venues ranging from theatres and school halls to outdoor stages. They expertly adapt their dances to the space available, performing in places where an audience would not normally have the opportunity to see classical ballet. Tickets will be available from May 18 by calling 232-0959 or from May 30 between 10am ? 2pm at the City Hall Box Office ( 292-2313. Tickets are $30.
