Seniors from the Senior Islanders Club will be enjoying lunch for the next year thanks to the Ross (Blackie) Talbot Charity. Clement Talbot, chairman of the Ross (Blackie) Talbot Memorial Charity Golf Tournament, presented the centre with a cheque for $7,000.

Mr. Talbot said: ?Our charity and the community at large are all very much indebted to our seniors for the significant contributions they have made in making Bermuda the Island it is today ? a place of stability and opportunity.?

The money, which was presented to Senior Islanders Club chairman Canon Thomas Nisbett, will cover the luncheons that are held three times a week throughout the year.

Club director Fredrick Hassell said he was grateful for all the contributions that the Ross (Blackie) Talbot Charity makes throughout the year to the seniors? programme.

?Bermuda?s younger generation have a tendency to forget the solid foundations that were laid by our seniors that we must now further build on,? Mr. Talbot said. ?We forget the sacrifices that were made in the past, which has created the many opportunities that all Bermudians have today.?

The donation to the club is separate from the five local charities that will benefit from the proceeds of the upcoming golf tournament and raffle ticket sales. The tournament is scheduled for April 5-7. The goal this year is to collect $175,000. Five charities benefiting are the Bermuda Diabetes Association, Big Brothers and Big Sisters, St. George?s Fire Brigade, Women?s Resource Centre and Ross (Blackie) Talbot Foundation.
