he Bermuda Mambo Nights Spectacular at the Fairmont Hamilton Princess Hotel last evening went off without a hitch, said organisers.

The entire package was organised by the BermudaSalsa.com Group, which also heads the Sabor Dance School and Salsamania Productions, said organiser Laura Smith.

?Last night was excellent,? she said, ?And I would say that it was close to a capacity crowd of between 400 to 500 people there. Because it was a special night we called it the Mambo Night Spectacular because we have about four or five events every year that come under the heading of Salsamania Productions. This one was the Mambo Night Spectacular, but in regards to the whole group with such large events, everybody takes part in organising it.?

The Mambo Night Spectacular had an international and local salsa showcase.

?This meant that we had both sets of artists perform,? said Ms Smith. ?After the show the night is finished with a social dance. The local performers were Sabor Dance School student group and its advanced dancers, the Sea Breeze Dancers, another group called Salsa Puro, Ricky Spence, a young group of children called the Saboritas and their teacher Jemina Richardson did a solo performance.

?There was also ?There was also a tap dancer group ? a great last minute entry. The international artists who came out of Toronto, were called Mambo Tribe and Latin Energy. Out of Montreal there was Chilital and San Tropez. Hailing from Boston was Mascote, and from New Jersey was Cultural Explosion.

?I think the highlight of the night was when the local people came out as they truly appreciate salsa dance because the place was packed with locals and maybe 70 or 80 percent were Bermudian.?

The event was the Island party side of the Royal Caribbean Salsa Fest on board the .

?On the liner classes are taking place on the day and salsa showcase performances are in the evening,? she said.

?Every night is dancing and we had on salsa showcase on the way down and will have another on the way back. It left from New Jersey and most of the people that came were from there, and mainly the places were the international artists came from like Toronto, New Jersey, Boston and some from New York too.

?And the fact they are in close proximity of Bermuda.?

After such a successful start, is BermudaSalsa.com planning to make the Salsamania Week an annual event?

?Yes, the next one is on August 6, 2006,? she said.
