The Bascome/Foggo family love their cricket

Gregory (Brutus) Foggo currently has a brother, son, son-in-law and grandson playing in the St. George's league team, but the proudest moment for him will be when his grandsons start playing in the senior team together.

Mr. Foggo and his wife Angie have ten grandchildren, eight boys and two girls and seven of the boys have a passion for cricket, playing every chance they get. Their love of cricket and football is hardly surprising, they have it on both sides of the family and receive plenty of encouragement.

"If my daddy was living he would have a son (Lewis Foggo) , grandson (Gregg Foggo) and great grandson (Orond? Bascome) all playing together and that is something rare," said Mr. Foggo.

"I'm almost certain that cricket is Orond?'s first choice, he is in the (national youth) football squad, too."

This season has seen Orond? finally establish himself as a regular in the league team, having got his first taste of senior cricket at the age of 12, his grandfather recalls.

"The first ball he bowled he got a wicket," said Mr. Foggo.

"His daddy was captain, we were playing Somerset Bridge in the last game of the season and their last two batsmen were in. The guy hit the ball in the covers and his first six in Premier Division cricket was last season against Somerset.

"I don't want to build him up too much but coming out this season reminded me of Wendell Smith's first season, but not as prolific as Wendell was. I was really impressed with Orond? when they played Willow Cuts when he got 59.

"The cover drives really sweeted me. Everybody knows he's a real humble guy, he listens and is an amazing guy to me. He's very focused. Okera (second oldest) is nothing like Orond? in personality. The first four, Orond? and Onias are laid back while Okera and Osagi are more hyped."

Orond? missed out on selection for Cup Match this year but the day will come when he and his brothers will be in the team together.

"They are all fanatics, from when they were babies," said Mr. Foggo.

"Orond? was bowling when he was two years old, the same as most of them. They are all gifted. Osagi is a left-handed batsman and even now he is making correct strokes. It seems lefties have an upper hand."
