It's an honour to go to Prospect Primary . . .
This writer needs hardly state how great an honour it was to be invited to be one of the central personalities at a special assembly of Prospect Primary School (PPS) this week.
I have been to PPS many times before, but this time it was to receive from the hands of school principal, Dr. Shangri-La Durham-Thompson (see photo, below left), a trophy with the following inscription: To Mr. Ira Philip for dedicated service as an "Elder Council Member" to Prospect Primary School 2007-2008.
Other Elder Council members include Dr. Eva Hodgson, Dr. Muriel Wade-Smith and Mrs. Merle Brock Swan-Williams. We are invited from time to time to give insights into 20th century and earlier events we have observed and written about in the effort to bring about a 'New Bermuda'.
Another highlight of the special assembly was the presentation of the PPS championship cross-country and track and field team. The students ran in the KPMG mile trials over the weekend.
Prospect had four students qualify, with Quaashie Douglas having the fastest time for primary school girls.
