The Bermuda National Trust Jumble Sale, Auction and Raffle begins today at the Botanical Gardens.

BNT development officer Kelly Way said there's a treasure trove of goodies at the various events, just waiting to be discovered.

The auction portion will be held on Saturday at 10 a.m. in the Jack King Building and Slat House with the preview today from 8.30 a.m. until 6.30 p.m. and tomorrow from 8.30 a.m. until 2 p.m.

"Some years the auction has great lots and some years not as great, as we are reliant on generous donations, but this is an exceptional year with many high quality items including paintings and furniture," Ms Way said of this year's offerings.

"The auction includes a wonderful collection of Bermudiana, as well as furniture, silver and books. Items that are bound to attract attention due to their rarity are two sets of beautiful silver flatware in their original boxes."

The popular community event has run for over 20 years and is significant in terms of funds generated for BNT.

"Everything in the jumble and most of the auction are items donated by members and friends," said Ms Way.

"Therefore, every penny raised is used to assist the Trust with its museums, educational programmes, archaeological research, historic buildings preservation and open space maintenance."

For the bargain hunters on a budget, Bermuda's biggest jumble sale takes place today and tomorrow.

Kathy Sharpe Keane, director of development said: "It's a chance for serious recycling – beauty is in the eye of the beholder, as one person's rubbish is another's treasure!"

On sale will be glass, china, jewellery, furniture, books – everything a household needs.

"You have never seen so much stuff," she said.
