A: King's wife Shawn, 48, is apparently seeking treatment for an addiction to painkillers, which she used for treatment of migraines ¿ obviously too frequently.

Q: What is actress Rosie Perez doing? ¿ L.F.

A: She co-stars with Seth Rogen in Pineapple Express, due out next month, is shooting ItW, with Terrence Howard and Alan Cumming, and is set to appear in the series Lipstick Jungle in a several-episode arc this fall.

Q: Is Barbara Hershey still acting? ¿ P.W.

A: Yes, she co-stars with Joe Mantegna in the upcoming drama Childless, and stars in the upcoming comedy-drama Uncross the Stars and the upcoming TV version of Anne of Green Gables. She's also currently shooting Schweitzer, the film bio of Nobel Peace Prize-winning doctor/philosopher Albert Schweitzer.

Q: With all the recent news, did actress Anne Hathaway break up with her boyfriend? ¿ L.K.

A: She undoubtedly would say no, but give ex-boyfriend Rafaello Follieri's recent brushes with the law and Hathaway's constant presence, she had to know that something was up ¿ and that something more serious was in the works. Some have commented that with a new movie, Get Smart, due out, she wanted to be separated from all the bad publicity that would be coming . . . and her family reportedly were relieved that she ditched him. But friends say she is still truly heartbroken about the end of the affair, despite the fact that Follieri is now under house arrest with bail set at $21 million on charges of fraud and money laundering.

Q: What is actor Kevin Bacon doing? I think he's great. ¿ K.T.

A: He stars in the upcoming family drama Saving Angelo; the drama Rails & Ties, directed by Clint Eastwood's daughter Alison; Ron Howard's drama Frost/Nixon; the TV movie Taking Chance, a war drama based on a true story; is one of the large ensemble in the romantic drama New York, I Love You; and is currently filming the comedy My One and Only, with Renée Zellweger and Chris Noth, based on actor George Hamilton's adventures as a child with his glamorous mom.

Q: What is actress Uma Thurman doing next? I think she's beautiful. ¿ R.D.

A: She stars with Colin Firth in The Accidental Husband, due out in September, and the romantic drama My Zinc Bed, and she is currently filming the comedy Motherhood, with Minnie Driver, and goes next into the family film Eloise in Paris, based on the children's classic.

Q: I'm glad that Tom Brokaw is going to do Meet the Press. Does that mean he's coming out of retirement? ¿ J.G.

A: The esteemed newsman never really retired. He gave up the NBC Nightly News anchor spot to Brian Williams but continued to do analysis and specials. He had always planned to be part of NBC's political coverage this year, and in that spirit, he agreed to take over the show through the election while network executives continue to debate who should succeed the late Tim Russert. When that happens, he'll go back to his contributor role and more fishing in Montana.

Q: Jim Carrey is great, but he has made some terrible movies. What next? ¿ L.N.

A: He would probably agree. Next up: the comedy Yes Man, due out in December; the comedy/drama I Love You Philip Morris, with Ewan McGregor; an animated retelling of the classic A Christmas Carol, with Carrey playing Scrooge and all of the various ghosts; and the biographical drama Ripley's Believe It or Not! about the life of Robert Ripley, who became famous for searching out the world's greatest oddities.

Q: I read that Jimmy Kimmel's show is being cancelled. Is that true? ¿ H.R.

A: No, not at all. In fact, Kimmel's show on ABC, Jimmy Kimmel Live, has just been extended. He'll remain at the network until at least 2010.
