BJSL in charity drive
If, between now and March 19, you see a bucket with a bright yellow Bermuda Junior Service League (BJSL) 'Coins for a Cause' label on it, please stop and donate.
As always with this registered charity, the funds it raises will go to a good cause, and this year's choice is Habitat for Humanity Bermuda.
"The monies raised will help fund a local home restoration project for a family in need, and League members have agreed to volunteer their time and talents to physically work on the chosen project," president Deborah Titterton Narraway said. "This annual programme is very successful for the League — in the past two years we have donated $24,000 to local charities. The campaign is a great way for local businesses to participate without having to do more than give up a bit of counter or floor space, and we wish thank all of the businesses who have helped so far.
"The League would like to encourage members of the public and school children to support our community by dropping their spare change into a 'Coin for a Cause' bucket at retail stores and businesses Island-wide."
Habitat Bermuda was established in response to the need for more adequate, affordable housing in Bermuda. By partnering with Bermuda businesses and families in need, Habitat Bermuda is actively addressing and meeting those needs by renovating or expanding substandard or inadequate housing.
The organisation receives applications from families in need and reviews them on a priority basis. Home projects include interior and exterior work, ranging from painting, plastering, electrical to landscaping. Volunteers on these projects work hand-in-hand with industry professionals.
The BJSL is a local women's charity focused on community service and raising money to aid our community's needs. It was founded in 1936 and has a long history of supporting the Bermudian community.
