Just phenomenal!

The Bermuda Music Festival kicked off at the Fairmont Southampton last night with the main act being the roll hall of fame trio The O'Jays.

If I could use only one word to write this review, I would only say that the O'Jays' performance was "phenomenal"!

But as I can't and you, the literary public, want to hear more about what happened, what they sang, how they sang it, did the weather hold, et cetera...

Well, after comedian Bootsie opened the show with a host of styled punch lines, and giggles from the crowd, the legendary O'Jays opened the show with the aptly-named old favourite 'Give the People What They Want'.

The Bermuda Music Festival audience got on their feet and there was waving and excitement all around the Fairmont Southampton beach party.

'Love Train' followed with impeccable dance routines to bat.

Heading into the slow jams, Eddie Levert introduced the section. "Guys who brought your girls or girls who brought your guys, girls who brought your girls or guys who brought your guys, get a hold of them right now," he advised the crowd. "Because they might want to get with me after this, and I ain't going for it."

'Keep on Loving Me' was followed by 'They Smile in Your Face' and there were few disappointed fans as the old hits brought back old memories.

The old standards continued as the band belted out 'Cry Together', 'Livin' for the Weekend', 'Your Body's Here With Me (But Your Mind's On The Other Side Of Town)', 'My Favourite Person' and so many more.

A phenomenal night was had by all.

The rain had stopped shortly before they came on, and as if by design, the clouds held their keep until after the O'Jays and comedian Steve Harvey had left the building.
