Something for everyone – even the kids
This year's Bermuda Gourmet Getaway will have something for everyone, even the kids.
While mom and dad are enjoying cooking demonstrations and sampling food and wine at the Viking Village at Gourmet Getaway, kids will have their own village.
Both events will be held at the Fairmont Southampton this Saturday and Sunday from noon to 5 p.m.
"Once again we will have the Kids Village, sponsored by Butterfield and Vallis," said event producer Michelle Halpin, senior event manager of Total Marketing & Communications Ltd.
"An interactive, fun and educational programme will be created for you and your children."
Kids will enjoy activities such as apron decorating, kite making demonstrations by Andre Burgess (and) Easter egg colouring, as well as food preparations (ice cream, smoothies, macaroni and cheese and chicken nuggets) and tasting of recipes.
"We are extremely fortunate to present Chef Jon Ashton, resident chef of 'Daily Buzz' (Florida) as the organiser and chef of the Kids Village," said Mrs. Halpin. "There is plenty to do to keep young chefs occupied and, at the end of the day, they get to take home their apron or eggs as a keepsake."
Chef Ashton will also be offering informative sessions and cooking activities for parents and children encouraging healthy cooking together.
Parents are encouraged to drop their children off at the "Kids Village" while they sample wines and watch live demos in the Viking Village.
"The Viking Village sponsored by Bermuda Gas, Viking and Fairmont will be the signature event of this year's Festival," said Mrs. Halpin.
The two day village includes a number of activities, tastings and entertainment (options) allowing guests to join Rahman (Rock) Harper – winner of Season Three of 'Hell's Kitchen' – as he talks them through Celebrity Cooking Demonstrations on Saturday and Sunday.
There will also be a Bermuda Fish Chowder competition, wine and rum seminars, and the 'Iron-Chef' style Escoffier Cup Finals on Sunday among many other events. "This is an amazing opportunity for all Bermudians to come out and support this home-grown event, taste some delicious food prepared by both Bermuda's and the world's best chefs and sample the largest selection of wines ever presented in one location in Bermuda," said Ms Halpin.
Also taking place on Saturday will be the popular Grillin' & Chillin' event at Bermuda Aquarium, Museum and Zoo. "Stroll through the Aquarium, Museum and Zoo to each grillin' station while you sample fine wines, beers and rums and listen to some of Bermuda's best musicians in the surrounds of our country's natural history," said Mrs. Halpin. Chillin' and Grillin will run from 7.30 to 10.30 p.m.
Grillin & Chillin is proudly sponsored by Bermuda Gas, Viking, Butterfield & Vallis, Goslings, Fairmont, Barritt's and Undercover Tent Rentals.
