Students stage fashion show
A fashion show with the goal of raising funds for CedarBridge Academy's prom will take place tonight at the Ruth Seaton James auditorium.
Evolution Fashion Show organiser Sherelle Simons said the show will start at 7.30 p.m. sharp.
"This fashion show is to raise money for the Class of 2008's prom in June," said the CedarBridge student.
"We have been doing many fundraisers to raise money such as grocery packing, bake sales, grub days and potluck suppers."
And students have been prepping for their stints as catwalk models.
"We have 30-plus models taking part in the fashion show and there will also be singing and dancing," Miss Simons said.
"The participants are students from the CBA class of 2008.
"The models will be modelling clothes from their own wardrobes."
Miss Simons said the graduation class' organising committee came up with the plan and were inspired by the stylishness of their peers.
"Many of their fellow classmates are into fashion," she said. "The S4s held a meeting and we agreed that it will be an excellent fundraising event.
"Then we formed a fashion show committee, which consisted of five students: Latonae Smith, Sherae Simons, Victoria Camara, Jorde Smith and myself.
"The committee has been working extremely hard to make this event a success. The participants have been very supportive and committed to the event.
"The name 'Evolution' was chosen as the name of the show because we felt that we are evolving from young minds to powerful minds."
Miss Simons said the whole CedarBridge community is pitching in with school staff and parents getting involved as well.
"The CBA faculty has been very supportive and helpful," she said. "A special thanks goes to Ms Tracey Trott, Ms Donna Edwards, Mr. Stuart Crockwell and Mr. Dean Foggo for their encouragement, dedication and time."
Organisers are hoping for a great turnout to support the students.
"We are hoping to sell out the auditorium, which holds more than 500 people," Miss Simons.
Tickets are $20 in advance and $25 at the door and can be purchased at Jazzy's Boutique, Washington Mall, CedarBridge Academy main office and from participants.
