For William Moniz, the toughest part of this competition has been watching what he eats.

But when it comes to the gym, he has not found that difficult, as it is something that he does, although not consistently.

Like the other contestants he is required to workout for nine hours a week, but in addition to this he is cycling on Sundays with his son-in-law and his grandson.

Although he attends the gym alone, he has found support of family, friends and the community at large very encouraging.

"It's been very supportive, but I don't think I could keep up exercising seven days a week after the contest is over," said Mr. Moniz, who has lost ten pounds.

Mr. Moniz began the competition weighing 184. He said he was very surprised by the amount of body fat that the scale said he lost. "I questioned whether that was accurate," he said.

Although far from needing a new wardrobe, he says that there was a need to tighten his belt a notch.

When asked how was the diet, he said: "I like bread, ice cream and cookies. I really have to force myself not to indulge."

Regarding what he had learned over the past six/seven weeks, he admitted: "I have been telling myself for years that I'm going to lose not weight, but body fat. I think I've learned in the last six weeks how to do that."
