BHS captures debate title

The winning BHS team at the first Bermuda Debate Society's schools' debate.
A team from Bermuda High School has won the first Bermuda Debate Society schools' debate.The two-week competition ended with a final debate at City Hall in Hamilton when Aliyyah Ahad, Annefa Burke, Catherine Campbell, Katryn Smith and Christie O'Doherty from BHS were awarded with blue ribbons and a plaque to commemorate their win. Rebecca Dickson, Jacari Brimmer-Landy, Tsilala Graham-Haynes, Adam Kiki-Charles and Nicholas Rinehimer of the Saltus Grammar School team were awarded red ribbons and a plaque as runners-up.After each winning three of four preliminary rounds, BHS and Saltus debated the motion “This House Would Hold Parents Responsible for the Crimes of Their Children” at the final event. Three of five judges ruled in favour of BHS, which opposed the motion. The other schools involved in the contest were Berkeley Institute, Bermuda Institute, Mount Saint Agnes Academy and Warwick Academy.
