Here are a some suggestions: Herbal Steam Facial: Steaming is one of the best ways to cleanse the skin. The inclusion of herbs in the water aids cleansing, while stimulating, soothing and tightening the skin.
Pour boiling water over fresh or dried herbs in a basin, make a tent over your head with a towel, and let the steam soak your face for ten minutes or more.
Chamomile flowers, elder flowers, lime, strawberry leaves, fennel, roses, peppermint, nettle and rosemary are among the herbs which can be used in combination or alone.
Mouthwash: A simple, breath-freshening mouthwash can be made from strong peppermint tea or by steeping equal portions of mint, anise and rosemary in boiling water. Strain and store in a tightly capped bottle.
Herbal Protein Shampoo: Mix together 2 tbsp. Irish moss, 1 cup each chamomile and calendula flowers, fresh or dried; 1 cup orange peel, fresh or dried; 1 cup orrisroot. Boil in 41 cups water in an enamel pot for about 5 minutes.
Turn off heat and let steep. Meanwhile, measure 3 cup shaved castile soaplets and pour into an enamel bowl. Strain herbs through cheesecloth or muslin into the soap. Gently beat until soap is dissolved, heating if necessary. Pour into a quart container, add a few drops of essential oils of your choice dissolved in 1 oz. tincture of benzoin. Cap, shake and label.
